Harkirat Singh Kang
Harkirat Singh Kang is the Principal Lawyer and Founder of Truman Law. He was called to the Bar Council of Delhi in 2013, the Bar of Ontario in 2016, and the Law Society of British Columbia in 2017. His practice focuses on real estate, litigation, and business matters, where he advises clients on a broad range of transactions, disputes, and corporate issues with a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
Truman Law was established in 2020, initially as a litigation-focused practice. Prior to founding the firm, Harkirat practiced with boutique litigation firms in British Columbia, where he gained extensive experience in civil litigation, including real estate and corporate disputes, contractual matters, construction-related claims, and foreclosure proceedings. He has represented clients before both the Provincial Court and the Supreme Court of British Columbia, handling applications, discoveries, settlement conferences, and trials.
This litigation background continues to inform Truman Law’s real estate and transactional practice. Since expanding the firm’s real estate services in 2021, Harkirat has applied his litigation experience to help clients navigate complex transactions involving foreclosures, encumbered titles, private lending, corporate ownership structures, and non-standard closings. His approach emphasizes careful risk assessment, clear documentation, and an understanding of how transactions may be scrutinized if disputes arise.
Harkirat regularly advises clients on residential and commercial real estate transactions, private lending and mortgage matters, business purchases and sales, corporate structuring, and select civil litigation issues. His practice is grounded in providing clear, practical legal advice and guiding clients through matters that often involve both legal complexity and significant financial considerations.
Harkirat founded Truman Law with the goal of offering focused, hands on legal service, where clients work directly with a lawyer who understands both the transactional and dispute-related aspects of their matters. The firm’s practice reflects this integrated approach, combining transactional efficiency with litigation-informed judgment.
Harkirat is fluent in English, Punjabi, and Hindi, and also speaks Marwari, reflecting his roots in Rajasthan, India. He grew up on a small farm where his early years shaped a practical, grounded approach to problem solving and an appreciation for clear, straightforward communication. He values plain language explanations and believes that good legal advice should be understandable and accessible and not intimidating.
Outside the office, Harkirat enjoys spending time with his family, particularly his daughters, where legal arguments are ineffective and negotiations seldom succeed. It remains his most enjoyable and humbling jurisdiction
